Flashback: David Bowie’s First TV Performance in 1970

David Bowie is now an icon in musical culture. His music has provided a landmark sense of pride for music in the UK while also being embraced with open arms by the USA. Bowie’s career has spanned over three decades, releasing new material as recently as last month with his album The Next Day.

However, all musical giants had their modest beginnings. In 1970, Bowie performed live on television for the first time with “Space Oddity.” Long known for his larger than life persona, it’s interesting to watch Bowie maintain his composure with ease in this performance while it is his first to be nationally broadcast. The performance was in promotion of his newly released self-titled sophomore album.

Also, very cool just to see that it is “Space Oddity” as it has long been one of my favorite songs of his. Watch the video below to see one of the most influential song-writers and performers make his debut to a national audience.
